September 2008
With funding from the Canterbury Community Trust, two conservators from UK and Canada have begun work on the 'reserve collection' - a collection of artefacts associated with Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton's expeditions which were removed from Antarctica in the 1990's for safekeeping. Based at Canterbury Museum, Antonia and Mindy will spend six months working on the collection before departing to spend the Antarctic winter continuing the work of our conservators who are based year round on the Continent conserving the 15,000+ artefact collection associated with the early Antarctic explorers. At a reception at New Zealand Parliament an announcement has been made that the Irish Government has joined the Trust Board. At the same reception the Irish Fund of New Zealand handed a cheque for $30,000 to the Trust. Read the media release.
