Scott's Expedition Base, Hut Point

The expediton base associated with Sir Robert Falcon Scott's (Discovery) Expedition is located at Hut Point and is walking distance from the United States science base, McMurdo Station.  It is protected under the Antarctic Treaty System.

In 2003 and 2004 a team of heritage/conservation/polar experts compiled Conservation Plans for each of the four sites under our care.  The plans (reviewed by relevant international agencies) provide the proposed conservation for the sites.  An Implementation Plan (a detailed planning and logistics document which  compliments the Conservation Plan) is yet to be written for the Hut Point site.

Annual maintenance is carried out at this site while the Trust focuses on saving Scott's second expedition base at Cape Evans which is currently threatend by tonnes of snow and ice.

The conservation project for this site, together with artefacts associated with it, will commence (together with a fundraising campaign) once Captain Scott's base at Cape Evans is secured.
