Borchgrevink's Expedition, Cape Adare

The expedition base associated with Carsten Borchgrevink's (Southern Cross) Expedition  is located at Cape Adare, Northern Victoria Land.  It is protected under the Antarctic Treaty System and is the only remaining example in the world of man's first building on a continent.

It is based in the remote location of Northern Victoria Land and is only accessible by ship.

In 2003 and 2004 a team of heritage/conservation/polar experts compiled Conservation Plans for each of the four sites.  The plans (reviewed by relevant international agencies) provide the proposed conservation for the sites.

With funding from the Norwegian Government (through the Directorate for Cultural Heritage) an Implementation Plan (a detailed planning and logistics document which  compliments the Conservation Plan) for the Cape Adare site is currently being prepared (2007).

The conservation project for this site, together with artefacts associated with it, will commence once funding is secured.
